As a child I was surrounded by creativity, my Mum would make all of my dresses, as well as a whole array of outfits for my dolls, and my Gran would knit all of my cardigans and jumpers and of course for my dolls too! So as soon as I was old enough I was shown how to use a sewing machine as well as a pair of knitting needles. I grew up in a small sleepy town in Warwickshire and attended the local Convent school until I was 12, which was the foundation for my strong Faith. I wanted to make sure that this came through in our work and you will see that we use Corinthians 13:13 as embroidery on bibs and shawls, as well as having a little blessing written on our labels which are sewn into the seam of each little outfit.
Angels and fishes started after I had been made redundant from my Children’s wear design job of 15 years. Alongside my design work I was already making beautiful colourful bags and selling them at Church and the ladies named them bible bags (as they were the perfect size for their Bibles) so originally the Angels and Fishes brand name was created for these (and I will be adding some to the site at some point after several requests!) but the name seemed to suit the original Christening collection and so it was.
Angels and Fishes has been a labour of love, starting from my garage at home with my baby in a bouncer on the end of the cutting table and working well into the night, and growing slowly. Our first workshop was so cold we had to wear five layers of clothes in the winter, but I can remember being so excited and over-the-moon when we got it, even though there was only one window and barely enough light to see what we were doing! We are now in our second workshop in an old boot and shoe factory a little larger and a little warmer! with lots of wonderful natural light.
I have been very blessed to work with some amazing people who share my vision and have to Thank my lovely Mum and Dad who since retiring have never worked harder in their lives!, My long suffering Husband and two Beautiful girls, My right hand Lady Auntie Lynda, who I cannot thank enough, she knows every trial and tribulation and helped us overcome each one, the wonderful Donna and Sharon whose skills are second to none!, our fabulous accountant/motivator! Jan!, Wendy Grant and Natalie Jane Larder Photographers whose beautiful pictures have opened doors, the wonderful shops and boutiques some of whom have been with us since the very beginning thank you so much!; and there are so many more people that I’ve met on this journey who have had a part to play, too many to name, and I’m thankful for each and every one of you!
I do hope you love your Angels and Fishes outfit as much as we have loved making it
With love Angela x
